Betchworth Parish Council currently have a vacant seat. We want to find an active, enthusiastic, committed person to fill this vacancy and help make a difference to the community.
What do Parish Councils Do? As elected representatives of the community, the council seeks to make life comfortable and enjoyable for the residents of Betchworth. In the past, this has included such things as installing a small playground, building a pavilion in our Burial Ground, installing new kissing gates, noticeboards, and defibrillators. The Parish Council is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of our beautiful Goulburn Green, The Orchard, Burial Ground and the allotments. The Parish Council review all planning applications and consultations that have an impact on Betchworth as well as representing Betchworth in such areas like the Gatwick expansion.
What’s the role of a Councillor? There are currently 7 seats on the council, and the members are supported by a Clerk/ Responsible Financial Officer. The Council meets on the 1st Monday evening of each month to consider items of business and make decisions for action. Parish Councillors are volunteers and full training is available.
